The term "acropolis" means "upper town", many of the city states of ancient Greece are built around the Acropolis, Athens residents can take refuge in times of invasion, Acropolis is considered the safest place in town.

The building was made by the architects of the Parthenon Kallikrates and Iktinos as the residence of the huge statue of Athena. Its construction lasted nine years is probably the most famous building in the world. Temple became church, mosque and finally deposit the Turkish guns.

What is fascinating is that it creates a feeling Parthenon is made of parts that you can change between them. For example, the columns are stones placed one upon another, the first sensation is that you could change one piece with the other but this is not possible. Each piece of the Parthenon is unique and fits with where it is located as the most difficult puzzle. The lines appear straight, in reality they are not. The ancient Greeks understood mechanized ground as to make it look right line must be curved.
