Rodin Museum - Presentation and images

Auguste Rodin (1840 - 1917) was the most prominent French sculptor of his times and one of the most respected and beloved artists of the country. Often credited as the father of modern sculpture, Rodin's works are very realistic, unlike those of his predecessors, whose works were based mainly on allegory and mythology. Rodin was more than a sculptor, although the sculpture is the area that is best known. Drawings and his paintings are also great and had a major role in its development as an artist. Auguste Rodin revolutionized sculpture, considered by many as the greatest sculptor of all time, after Michelangelo.

In the studio of Auguste Rodin and other sculptors worked. Constantin Brancusi went on here but he left after a few months saying, "Nothing can be high in the shade of large trees."

Rodin Museum is located in a villa from the 18th century where the artist lived and worked in a period of his life, in a garden isolated from the city. The building is located near Les Invalides, where Napoleon is buried. The house was originally built for a manufacturer of wigs, but belonged over time and the Catholic Church, and finally Paris.

Upon entering the museum, tourists are attracted eyes inevitably the most famous work of Rodin's The Thinker (Le Penseur) that is placed on a pedestal watching over the garden. Gates of Hell, another famous work, and other less famous masterpieces adorn the museum garden.

Rodin Museum holds a total of approximately 6,600 sculptures, all the works by Rodin. The works are divided between the museum in Paris, known as the Hotel Biron, and vineyards often Brillants in Meudon, Rodin house which he held since 1895 sculptures are made of cast bronze, marble, wax, molten glass and stone. Bronze and marble sculptures are held at the location of Paris, including "Kiss" another famous work of Rodin.

Rodin's drawings are as fascinating as sculptures. Art historians say about Rodin's drawings are "built" and that it "draw as a sculptor, but not for his statues." The designs are totally different sculptures. Rodin and painted, and many of these paintings can be seen at the Rodin Museum. It is said that it is pleased to emulate Rubens, and visitors will find really a number of works like those of Rubens. Rodin gladly doing portraits of friends and family. In the Muzelle Rodin organizes a lot of temporary exhibitions and other artistic events.

The museum is open daily except Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.. Gardens closes at 18:00. Last ticket sold at 17:15.
The museum is closed on January 1, May 1 and December 25.

There is a combined ticket for Orsay Museum and Rodin Museum. It cost 12 €.
