Palais Rohan, built between 1771 - 1774, serves as the building of City Hall and Museum of Fine Arts. Originally, the palace was the residence of the Archbishop's role Bordeaux to the French Revolution, the seat of the revolutionary court in 1791, the seat of the prefecture in 1802, the imperial palace under Napoleon I in 1808 and 1815 royal castle to Louis XVIII and the 1835 - hall.The assembly is done in a Louis XVI style monumental, sober and balanced. Palace consists of a main building flanked by two smaller wings, placed at right angles, connected by a colonnade.
The building was renovated in the eighteenth - century. Since then I have made very few changes. It is noteworthy that both rear facade and Rohan Palace keeps its original appearance. Also noteworthy are the imposing scale and richly decorated living room. Salons are paneled in Louis XVI style, with lime wood and decorated with rich vegetal motifs by sculptor Barthélémy Cabirol.
The building is surrounded by beautiful gardens in the English style, dating from 1882 on each side of the rear garden, there are two wings, which were built in 1880 to house the Museum of Fine Arts.
